Aida Alvarez, New York State Champion from 1955 to 1956 in what was then known as the 'girl's' category. As the state champion she raced in the 1955 ABLA nationals held at the Flushing Meadow Cycling Track, but failed to crack the top seven.
She is posing on her Schwinn Paramount track bike, with a three arm crank and an adjustable stem.
The Flushing Meadow track, the precursor to Kissena Velodrome, stood within the boundaries of Shea Stadium (supplanted now by Citifield) and was roundly hated by New York cyclists as it had an imperceptible banking. Kisssena's modest banking was a major improvement in the sixties.
This picture looks to have been taken there, right by the Roosevelt Avenue elevated subway line that carries the 7 train to the end of the line at Flushing.
